Principal
Jessica Murphy
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as your principal for the 2024-25 school year. With over 20 years in education and 17 of those years dedicated to the San Mateo Foster City School District, I bring a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to our community. My background includes teaching a range of lower grade levels, including combo classes, and providing targeted intervention support for students from kindergarten through fifth grade. I am a proud product of this district, having attended George Hall, Abbott, and Hillsdale High School.
Throughout my career, I have worked closely with diverse communities within the district, supporting multilingual learners, neurodiverse students, and those with disabilities.
My goal is to create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for all our students. Building strong, positive relationships with our families and students is central to our mission here at Laurel Elementary. Our work this year will be focused around best practices for multilingual students, continuing to strengthen our instruction around early literacy, supporting students’ social emotional needs and implementing restorative practices.
Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, reading, paddleboarding, and traveling with my family. My husband and I have two wonderful children, Emily (13) and Liam (11), who are also part of the district, and our lively pets—Bowie, our 1-year-old dog, and Bailey, our 2-year-old cat—keep us on our toes.
I am eager to embark on this journey with you, fostering collaboration, connecting with families, and making this year a remarkable one for our Laurel Elementary community.
Please know that my door is always open to you. I welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year. For consistent communication from me, your child’s teacher, the school, and the district, please set up a ParentSquare account and download the app!
Let us always keep our students the primary focus of our work. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes during the 2024-2025 school year. We hope that your family will feel supported, build connections with other members of our community, and fly to new heights being a Laurel Eagle.
