2026-2027 New Student Registration Process

Thank you for choosing the San Mateo-Foster City School District for your child's education! We are excited to welcome you to our schools and help guide you through the process of registering your child.

New student registration for the 2026-2027 school year is now open!

The priority registration period closed at 5:00 pm on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Registrations submitted after the priority deadline are processed after all those received by the priority registration deadline.

HOW TO REGISTER A NEW STUDENT

STEP 1: Locate your child’s school of assignment

• Visit the School Assignments page to locate your child's school of assignment.

STEP 2: Collect all required registration documents

• Required registration documents must be complete and up-to-date in order to be accepted by the school office.

STEP 3: Complete and submit the New Student Registration Form

• ONLINE FORM:  Click here, available in English and Spanish
• PAPER FORM:     English         Spanish
• STEP 4: Submit all required registration documents to complete the new student registration  process

• The office staff of the school of assignment will review and verify the required registration documents. Documents can be uploaded in the online registration form or can be given directly to the school office staff either by email or in-person at the school office.
• Registration is considered complete only after you have completed document verification in Step #4.
• Step #4 must be completed by 5:00 pm on Monday, January 5, 2026 in order to be considered within priority.

AGE AND GRADE LEVEL ELIGIBLITY

For the 2026-2027 school year, students are eligible to enter:

• Kindergarten if they have reached 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2026. Date of birth is between September 2, 2020 - September 1, 2021.
• Transitional Kindergarten (TK) if they have reached 4 years of age on or before September 1, 2026. Date of birth is between September 2, 2021 - September 1, 2022.

Early admittance to Kindergarten or TK is not permitted.

Kindergarten-aged students are not admitted to TK.

TK-aged students are not admitted to Kindergarten.

Students are enrolled based on the grade eligible according to their date of birth. There are no exceptions.
